HEDNESFORD 07 05 2012-2012

Hednesford 07 05 2012 The third meeting of the year for the Classic Hot Rod was at the home of hot Rod racing, Hednesford Hills Raceway on the May Day bank holiday Monday. There was an impressive grid of 19 cars, which included the debut of Lee Woods immaculate RS 2000, which was liveried in the Total Colours of Barry Lees famous Total Escort. The attention to detail was amazing with all the decals spot on and even the Avon tyres having Goodyear written on them! Many hours hard work had gone into the preparation of the car to make it look as stunning as it did. Whilst on the subject of replicas there was also a Mk2 Escort painted in the colours of famous midlands driver Pete Stevens. Making a return to hot rod racing after some 19 years ago was Tim Foxlow, Tim is probably better known for a long career in the Super rods with a Capri and he was looking forward to getting out in a Hot rod again. A shower before the start of heat one left the track a bit greasy and damp and it was Ian Wright led them away from Pole in his Mk2 while Wood was quickly up to second, rob Montagner in his Cheviot was soon up on Wood while point leader Daz Owen moved up to fourth. While Wright pulled away at the front Montagner found his way past Wood and over a closing stages a good battle developed for second between Monty, wood and Owen, Owen eventually getting by for third as Wright ran out the winner, it being his first win in the formula in only his fourth meeting. The rack was perfectly dry for heat two as Ian Bowring in his Anglia was the first to show from Wood and Wright. Wood was struggling a bit and was soon overtaken by Montagner who chased after Wright, Bowring was looking comfortable in the lead as wood eventually pulled up with mechanical problems, behind wood Owen and Roger Wright were having a good go for fourth, Owen eventually getting the upper hand, Dave Fry was soon also up in the pack as Wright dropped back, Owen found his way past Montagner in the closing stages as Bowring ran out the winner from Wright. Owen, Monty and Fry. The final saw Wright quickly take up the lead from Wood, Monty, Wright and Owen, Wood pulled off after 5 laps with mechanical problems, as did Owen Shortly after in a cloud of steam. This left Wright clear at the front from Montagner and behind him Fry managed to get past Wright to take up third and this is how they ended up at the flag, with a delighted Wright taking an excellent heat and final double
