NORTHAMPTON 30 05 2011-2011

Northampton 30 05 2011 Wright Conquers a wet Northampton The Classic Hot rods had their fourth outing of the year when they made their return Northampton International Raceway the Whitsun Bank Holiday Monday. Having escaped the rain so far this year they paid the price with heavy rain all afternoon, add the fact that many of the cars only had slick tyres it was going to be an entertaining days racing. The meeting also saw the debut of ex Autograsser and Rallycross driver Steve Moreton at the helm of the ex Richard Bolton Anglia. Stu Wright led them away for the first heat followed by Dave Owen, Lee Wood and Dave Fry, both Wood & Fry were soon through on the inside of Owen, while Paul Bowring managed to spin in the appalling conditions, however they were suiting Fry who was quickly past Wood and Wright to take the lead as Wright slowly dropped down the order. Wood was right up behind Fry for much of the race as Glen Moore moved up to third. Wood was still chasing hard but managed to spin out along the home straight shortly before the end, but recovered for fourth place , with Fry taking the win from Moore and Sammy Mitchell. It was still as wet for heat 2 this time Dave Owen managed to hold on at the front while Wright dropped back down the order, Wood was running second and soon took over at the helm while Rob Montagner was quickly gaining ground and soon demoting Wood for the lead, Wood was soon under pressure from Mitchell but managed to hang on this time for second, almost catching Montagner at the line, from Mitchell and Daz Owen, Remarkably Wood was the only driver on wets in the top four. Stu Wright led them off in ht persistent rain for the final from Daz Owen and Wood, Whatever the earlier problem had been with Wrights car he now had it sorted and was flying. Once again Wood demoted Dave Owen while Montagner was quickly up to third but this time could make no headway on Wood, so Stu Wright ran out a very wet winner (on slicks too!) from Wood , Montagner, Daz Owen and Mitchell.
